Contemporary Vietnamese, Intermediate level (Part time)

Contemporary Vietnamese, Intermediate L evel, is a general Vietnamese course, aimed at enabling learners to communicate successfully in both spoken and written Vietnamese at intermediatelevel. The course will be conducted by bilingual teachers from Vietnam, who possess teaching qualifications, rich language-teaching experience, noble teachers’ qualities, and most importantly, speak standard Vietnamese. Learners will develop integrated language skills during the course and will be able to speak, listen, read and write intermediate-level Vietnamese by the end of the course.

1. Programme Details
 
Vocabulary 500 new words
Targeted Participants
Adult foreign learners who have completed Contemporary Vietnamese, Pre-intermediate level at Cambridge Institute, or those who can communicate in both s po ken and written Vietnamese at a fair l evel of 1000 words and wish to improve the language for different personal purposes.
 

In this course, students are really on board to S-shaped country. This immersion journey is bringing students to Vietnamese families, parties, ceremonies, festivals, offices, schools, factories, shops, hospitals and historical cultural sites. Students will practise the language in very real situations which help to raise their awareness of Vietnamese language, practice, customs, history and all socio-economic aspects. Higher language skills such as asking for permission, hiring services, arguing, and so on will be developed. Students will learn more complicated sentence structures and expressions. Writing skills will be much enhanced, and students will be able to write a 300-word essay on given topics by the end of the course.

 
2. Course Structure
 

2 sessions per week, 10 sessions in total

From Monday to Saturday

Evening session    : 7:00 pm-9.30 pm
Afternoon session : 2:00 pm-4.30 pm
Morning session : 9:00 am-11.30 am
 
3. Methodology
 

Students will be engaged in different situational and communicative language activities such as role play, interviews, information gap, games, language exchanges, survey, pair work, grammar quizzes and so on. Teachers will analyze students’ needs, set contexts and design tasks for students to practise the language.

 
4. Teaching Materials
 

Text books are professionally designed and written by a professional team of linguistic experts and language teachers from National University of Vietnam and the Institute of Vietnam Studies and Science Development, following the communicative approach in language teaching. The books are targeted at adult foreign learners and were published in 2004 in Vietnam by the World Publishing House.

 
5. Certificate of Attendance
 

Participants who have attained an attendance rate of 90% and above will be presented with certification of completion. Students’ portfolios, including all students’ papers, assessment sheets and tests, will be given back to students by the end of the course.

7. Our Teachers
 

All of our teachers are native speakers from Vietnam, who hold Master or Bachelor degrees in language teaching or in other relevant fields. Their qualifications have been approved by MOE. They communicate in both Vietnamese and English. They are enthusiastic, responsible, and dedicated.
