Vietname - Emglish and English - Vietname Translation Skills (Part time)

English-Vietnamese and Vietnamese-English TranslationSkills is aimed at developing advanced Vietnamese students’ awareness of the lexico-grammatical resources of Vietnamese language for translating documents of different types and providing students with opportunities to improve their own competence in using language for different purposes. The course will be conducted by bilingual teachers from Vietnam, who possess teaching qualifications, rich language-teaching and translating experience, noble teachers’ qualities, and most importantly, speak standard Vietnamese.

1. Programme Details
 
Vocabulary 800 new words
Targeted Participants
Adult foreign  learners who have completed Contemporary Vietnamese, Advance Level at Cambridge Institute, or those who have experience in both spoken and written Vietnamese at the volume of 2500 words and wish to be able to translate Vietnamese documents from and to English for different personal purposes.
 

In this course, more advanced lexico-grammatical structures, larger vocabulary volume, and necessary translation techniques will be provided to students so that students will feel confident in translating documents of different types such as articles from newspapers, magazines, economic contracts, journal articles, brochures, and so on. By the end of the course, students should have knowledge and understanding of key concepts in translating texts from and into Vietnamese, discriminate between different types of words, be able to recognize, comprehend and translate idioms and fixed expressions, and improve skills in using written Vietnamese for different purposes.

 
2. Course Structure
 

2 sessions per week, 10 sessions in total

From Monday to Saturday

Evening session    : 7:00 pm-9.30 pm
Afternoon session : 2:00 pm-4.30 pm
Morning session : 9:00 am-11.30 am
 
3. Methodology
 

Students will be engaged in different situational and communicative language activities such as role play, interviews, information gap, games, language exchanges, survey, pair work, grammar quizzes and so on. Teachers will analyze students’ needs, set contexts and design tasks for students to practise the language.

 
4. Teaching Materials
 

Text books are professionally designed and written by a professional team of linguistic experts and language teachers from National University of Vietnam and the Institute of Vietnam Studies and Science Development, following the communicative approach in language teaching. The books are targeted at adult foreign learners and were published in 2004 in Vietnam by the World Publishing House.

 
5. Certificate of Attendance
 

Participants who have attained an attendance rate of 90% and above will be presented with certification of completion. Students’ portfolios, including all students’ papers, assessment sheets and tests, will be given back to students by the end of the course.

7. Our Teachers
 

All of our teachers are native speakers from Vietnam, who hold Master or Bachelor degrees in language teaching or in other relevant fields. Their qualifications have been approved by MOE. They communicate in both Vietnamese and English. They are enthusiastic, responsible, and dedicated.
