General Chinese consists of programmes at 4 different levels, namely, Basic, Intermediate, Upper intermediate and Advanced Level. The main aim is to help learners acquire listening, speaking, reading and writing skills with the language. All the programmes will be conducted by bilingual teachers from mainland China, who speak good Mandarin and have profound knowledge of the Chinese language as well as the Chinese culture. Learners can build up a vocabulary of up to 30 00 words and 1800 Chinese characters afte r the advanced level . Take General Chinese , and you’ll be able to attain your goal in an efficient way. |

In this course, standard Mandarin pronunciation will be introduced through Hanyu Pinyin and by means of comparison between English and Chinese phonetics. Meanwhile, some basic sentences and a certain number of essential words and expressions will be taught and practiced. By attending this course, the participants will be able to conduct simple daily conversation in Mandarin on topics such as shopping, ordering food, self introduction etc, and read short passages in Chinese characters, thus laying a solid foundation for further study. |

In the course, intensive effort will be made in the training of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills . Learners will, through more exposure and practice, get more familiar with the language and acquire sufficient vocabulary to express themselves on topics related to their daily life. Introduction to cultural differences will also be included to help the participants obtain some knowledge about China. More words and expressions and more grammatical structures will be taught through conversation practices. By attending this course, the participants will be able to speak Mandarin more accurately and fluently. |

More sentence patterns and grammatical structures will be taught through various student-centered and theme-based activities . By attending this course, the participants will be able to further improve their accuracy and fluency in speaking Chinese, and be able to read simple articles in Chinese. |

| III. Methodology of Teaching |
| |
Various effective in-class activities, such as l anguage games, role-plays, interaction with fellow classmates, discussions on given topics and so on, will be introduced to arouse and sustain the interest of learners and develop their language proficiency in an effect and express way. |

| IV. Teaching Materials |
| |
Textbooks are complied and published in China specifically for overseas learners of the Chinese language. |
| |
| V. Certificate of Attendance |
| |
Participants who have attained an attendance rate of 90% and above will be presented with Certificate of Completion at the end of each level. There are three tests included in each level. Report card containing the result of the final test and the overall performance will be issued at the end of the each level. |

VI. Our Teachers |

All of our teachers are native speakers from China, who hold master’s/bachelor’s degree in language teaching or in other relevant fields. Their qualifications have been approved by MOE. Conversant with both English and Chinese, they know how to guide and motivate students in the right path of Mandarin learning. They are enthusiastic, responsible, and dedicated. |
